Heading back from Nosara to SJO is a 5-hour cross-country drive — out of the Nicoya Peninsula, across Guanacaste, and into the Central Valley. Most Nosara travelers fly out of LIR instead since it's a 2½-hour transfer, but split itineraries and SJO connections do happen.
How long is the drive from Nosara to SJO Airport?
Plan on roughly 5 to 5¾ hours for the drive back to SJO. The first 90 minutes runs on Nicoya Peninsula roads — paved but narrower; the middle section joins the Guanacaste highway and the Pan-American east; the final stretch is the climb back into the Central Valley and the descent into San José traffic.
Is the road from Nosara to SJO Airport safe?
Paved highway end to end, via the Nicoya Peninsula, Guanacaste, and the Pan-American. The Nicoya sections are paved but narrower than the main highway; the rest is well-maintained main road.
