Travel from the volcano to the vibrant beach town of Jacó. Descend through the Central Valley and mountains before reaching the Pacific coast.
Travel Time Reality Check
Google says about 3 hours but plan for 3.5-4. The mountain road down through San Ramón can be slow with trucks, and there are always a few curves. Once you hit the highway to the coast it speeds up. Not the worst drive, not the shortest.

Well-paved roads. The final stretch uses the excellent Route 27 highway.

Good mid-morning departure works best. The drive down the mountain to the coast is really scenic. Once you hit the Pacific side you can feel the temperature change — warm, salty air. Ask your driver about lunch spots in Jaco, the food scene there has gotten really good.
