Google says 5 hours. Plan for 6. Santa Teresa is remote — that's part of the charm. The drive goes by land through the Nicoya Peninsula up to the Friendship Bridge, then across to the Interamericana and on to SJO. Unpaved sections at the start slow you down. Leave very early for flights.

Leave early. The road out of Santa Teresa is unpaved and slow, but once you hit the main road through Nicoya it gets better. The drive through the peninsula is beautiful — rural Guanacaste, small towns, and classic Tico countryside. Give yourself plenty of time for your flight.
