Start at 6am — seriously. This is a long drive and you want to arrive with daylight. The Braulio Carrillo pass is stunning in the morning. Once you clear the mountains and start descending toward La Fortuna, look for Arenal Volcano — when it appears in the distance, it's a special moment. You'll be there by noon for hot springs.
