Google shows 4-4.5 hours but this is a solid 5-hour drive. You go through the mountains via San Ramón and then down the Pacific coast. The road from Orotina to Quepos has construction zones. It's long but scenic — mountains, then coast.

Leave early — this is a full day of driving. The route through San Ramón and down to the coast is beautiful, with the Central Valley on one side and mountains on the other. Once you hit the Costanera highway along the Pacific, it's cruise mode. Ask your driver about the bridge over the Tárcoles River — you can spot crocodiles from above.
